My name is Kirk Alley. I'm an oil painter and charcoal/graphite artist. I draw inspiration from the classic Dutch masters, Baroque art, Surrealism and whimsical elements infused onto a more contemporary canvas. I try to seamlessly weave a thread of whimsy through the gravitas, with a touch of Rembrandt meets Burton using my own peculiar aesthetic. I love to play between darkness and delight and hopefully captivate and surprise the viewer. Juxtaposed, quirky imagery and unexpected twists are my norm yet I still enjoy painting a simple floral still life or portrait. I am mostly self taught and learn by studying art in person at my favorite galleries and museums including Norton Simon, the Louvre and local art shows.
